Terrorist Sympathisers Are Terrorists — Adeyanju Calls on FG to Arrest Cleric Gumi

The Nigerian government has been called upon to immediately arrest controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, over what has been described as inflammatory remarks concerning the country’s worsening security situation.

Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, made the call on Wednesday following the circulation of a viral video in which the cleric appeared to defend armed bandits.

In the footage, Gumi was heard saying that Fulani herdsmen “are not going anywhere,” adding that “they are part of us and we are part of them,” insisting that Nigerians must learn to live alongside them.

Reacting in a post on his Facebook page, Adeyanju argued that anyone perceived to be sympathising with terrorists should be treated as a terrorist themselves, insisting that such figures only thrive in a weak or failed state.

He wrote that individuals like Gumi “can only survive in a country without a government,” adding that “terrorist sympathisers are terrorists.”

Adeyanju further stated that Gumi’s comments and actions amount to encouragement of terrorism in Nigeria, urging authorities to arrest him as a deterrent to others.
