Former Sokoto lawmaker Abubakar Gada dumps ADC

A former lawmaker, Abubakar Gada has announced his plan to dump the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Gada, while speaking to some of his supporters in Sokoto on Saturday declared his intention to return to the PDP ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

According to the former lawmaker, his decision to leave the ADC stems from the need to reclaim his former party and rebuild following what he described as a leadership stagnation which rocked the PDP.

Gada, who represented Sokoto East Senatorial District alleged that the PDP under the leadership of the former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal was marred with crisis.

Recall that Gada who served in the senate between 2007 and 2011 before joining the ADC in 2025.

Speaking on his relationship with Tambuwal and the affairs of the state, Gada said leadership comes with responsibilities.

“My humble self and Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal were considered the leaders to drive the party in the state,” he said.

“But leadership means identifying with the people, showing commitment and taking responsibility. For six months, we raised the hope and tempo of the party, but he refused to come and sit down with us to build it,” Gada said.

Condemning the political activities exhibited by Tambuwal, the former lawmaker alleged that the ex-governor was in bed with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while positioning himself as a possible running mate for Peter Obi in ADC.

“You cannot be talking to APC on one hand, being promoted as vice-presidential option for Peter Obi on the other hand, and still refuse to register or allow your followership to register in ADC,” he alleged.

“This level of contradiction is not partnership for progress.”

Gada argued that the situation left the ADC “in limbo” in Sokoto and forced him to “take destiny into our hands by returning to PDP,” he noted.
