Senator Shehu Sani has alleged that the idea of protesters flying the Russian flag in Kano, Zamfara and Kaduna states was part of plans to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
The protesters who were captured in several video clips on social media were seen flying the Russian flag and clamouring for military rule in Nigeria.
Speaking on the development, Sani who featured on Channels Television’s program on Tuesday, said it was an attempt by some elements to overthrow the government.
“A day before the last protest, money was shared to the youths, and Russian flags were also shared.
“That shows that the whole intent of the protest is not simply about the policies and programmes of the government.
“There was an attempt to create an atmosphere where there would be an overthrow of the government.
“When you have this kind of situation, you will see that someone is writing a script for anarchy, lawlessness, and disorder. It is incumbent for someone like us to speak,” the former activist-turned politician said.
