Chief Olabode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his policies in response to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests sweeping across Nigeria.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, George emphasized the need for tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians, especially the youth.
“The state of our nation is akin to being in an intensive care unit,” George stated.
He called for President Tinubu to address critical issues in the oil and gas sector, as well as the power sector, to alleviate the widespread economic hardship faced by citizens.
George criticized the government’s handling of the oil sector, expressing frustration over conflicting reports about fuel subsidies.
“One day we hear about fuel subsidies, the next day there are claims that there are none. We need clarity and honesty,” he said.
Addressing the recent nationwide protests, George praised the young Nigerians who have peacefully demonstrated to express their discontent with current policies.
He noted the restlessness among the youth, who face job scarcity and food insecurity, and urged the government to listen to their grievances.
In addition, George advocated for comprehensive policies to support local agriculture, reduce inflation, and improve food security.
He called for constitutional reforms, including restructuring, power devolution, and resource control, and urged the President and National Assembly to revisit the 2014 National Conference recommendations.
He also called for an end to tribalism and religious bigotry, adding that it hinders the nation’s progress.
