The Bauchi Emirate Council has revoked the traditional title of Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South senatorial district in the National Assembly.
The decision comes after Senator Umar who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly insulted and criticized Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.
Senator Umar, who held the title of ‘Mandarin Bauchi’, accused Governor Mohammed of diverting palliative items provided by the APC-led federal government during a press briefing last week.
The Senator claimed that essential supplies meant to alleviate economic hardship in the state were sold by the state government instead of being distributed to the people.
The Bauchi Emirate Council, in a letter dated August 14, 2024, stated that the title withdrawal followed a council meeting held on Wednesday, where Senator Umar’s alleged misconduct was discussed.
The council resolved to remove him from his traditional role within the emirate, citing that his behaviour contradicted the values and traditions upheld by the Bauchi Emirate.
