The leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu over the appointment of an Igbo man, David Umahi, as the Minister of Works.
The group in a statement released on Sunday, August 18, said Umahi’s appointment has not only brought joy and pride to the Igbo people but has also signified a new era of partnership between the Southeast and the Federal Government at large.
Signed by its Secretary General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the statement by Ohanaeze said that before the swearing-in of Umahi on August 21, 2023, there were widespread concerns over the underrepresentation of the Southeast in ministerial positions.
It added that the president’s strategic decision to assign the vital portfolio of works to an Igbo Minister has proven to be a game-changer.
“The ongoing infrastructural development in the Southeast, particularly the construction and rehabilitation of federal highways, has played a significant role in fostering a renewed sense of unity and cooperation between the region and the Federal Government.
“The deplorable state of Southeast federal roads and the historical neglect of the region’s infrastructure have long been sources of discontent and grievances among the Igbo people. The appointment of Senator Umahi as Minister of Works has not only addressed these long-standing issues but has also demonstrated President Tinubu’s genuine commitment to the development and progress of the Southeast.
“The transformational impact of Senator Umahi’s leadership in the Ministry of Works cannot be overstated. His dedication, professionalism, and innovative policies have been instrumental in advancing President Tinubu’s vision for a better Nigeria,” the statement said.
Also commending Umahi on the signature projects executed in the South East are testaments to Senator Umahi’s unwavering commitment to delivering democratic dividends to Nigerians through improved road networks and economic growth.
