Labour Party Reps member speaks on planned defection to APC

Nkemkanma Kama, a member of the House of Representatives, has said that Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi does not compel individuals to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kama, who represents the Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency under the Labour Party, made this assertion while inspecting projects he had facilitated across his constituency on Friday.

His remarks come amid a wave of defections from opposition parties to the APC in the state.

Addressing speculations about his potential defection to the APC, Kama emphasized that his focus remains on delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents, rather than engaging in partisan politics.

“We do not dwell on party politics in Ebonyi as the governor has made things easy and simple for everyone,” Kama said.

“He is only interested in leaders joining him to develop the state, no matter their party affiliation. He is deeply interested in performance, not in where anyone is coming from.”

Kama highlighted the state’s priority on humanity over political affiliations, stating that “every other thing is secondary.”

The lawmaker also addressed concerns about the role of the National Assembly in Nigeria’s economic challenges, arguing that it is unfair to hold the legislative body solely responsible.

“We are only legislators and cannot give more than that. Our primary assignment is to make laws,” he added.
