The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to tackle the menace of “one chance” crime in Abuja by constructing three world-class bus and taxi terminals.
These terminals aim to improve the transportation system and enhance public safety in the territory.
Wike made this announcement on Monday while inaugurating the construction of a bus and taxi terminal in the Central Business District of Abuja.
This project is part of a broader initiative that includes the construction of two other terminals at Mabushi and Kugbo, which the minister had earlier inaugurated.
“We are integrating and improving our transportation system,” Wike stated during the ceremony.
“This initiative will address the ‘one chance’ crime and other security concerns associated with public transportation in Abuja.”
The minister emphasized that, with President Bola Tinubu’s support, the FCT Administration (FCTA) has been expanding road infrastructure in the territory.
He noted that the new and expanded roads would be linked to the bus terminals to facilitate smoother movement for commuters across the city.
The three bus terminal projects are expected to be completed in 2025, aligning with President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda for the nation.
Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the FCT Minister of State, expressed optimism about the impact of these new facilities.
“These world-class bus terminals will revolutionize Abuja’s transportation network,” Mahmoud said.
“Let us celebrate this significant milestone and continue to work toward the successful completion of the projects. May this project stand as a shining example of our city’s progress and our unwavering commitment to enhancing public services.”
The initiative is seen as a significant step towards modernizing Abuja’s transportation infrastructure and improving the safety of its residents.
