Court Fixes Fresh Date to Hear Money Laundering Case Against Binance

The Federal High Court has announced that it will hear the money laundering case against cryptocurrency exchange Binance and two of its executives next week, more than a month earlier than initially planned.

The defence lawyers requested the change in date. The case which was originally scheduled for Oct. 11 has now been fixed for Sept. 2

Binance and its executives, Tigan Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, face charges of laundering over $35 million.

The cryptocurrency trading platform is also accused of tax evasion. Both Binance and Gambaryan have denied the charges, while Anjarwalla escaped from detention and left Nigeria before the trial began.

Notedly, Gambaryan has been detained in Nigeria since February.

Nigeria has blamed Binance for its currency weakness, citing the platform’s role in facilitating trading of the Nigerian naira amid chronic dollar shortages and a record-low currency value.
