JUST IN: ICPC Blocks ADC Leaders from Meeting El-Rufai in Detention

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Friday prevented leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from gaining access to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently in its custody.

The visit, which drew attention within political circles, involved top members of the African Democratic Congress.

Those present included the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, and Salihu Lukman, who serves on the party’s Manifesto and Policy Committee.

However, the delegation was reportedly denied entry into the facility during their attempt to meet with the former governor. The reasons for the refusal were not immediately made public, and details surrounding the incident remain unclear as of press time.

El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, is being held by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission over undisclosed matters. His continued stay in custody has generated political reactions, especially from figures within his party circles and allied groups.

It is understood that the ADC leaders arrived at the ICPC premises earlier on Friday but were turned back without a meeting. No official statement has been issued regarding whether another visitation will be scheduled.

This development comes amid ongoing public discussions about El-Rufai’s treatment in custody. The ICPC had earlier dismissed allegations suggesting he was being denied access to food, family members, and medical care.

According to the Commission, access is typically granted to authorised individuals, including legal representatives, medical personnel, and family members, under supervision and within approved visiting periods.

For now, uncertainty still surrounds Friday’s blocked visit, as neither the ICPC nor the ADC has provided further clarification on what led to the denial of access.
