The Police Command in Anambra on Thursday, September 5, said it arrested a suspect over alleged involvement in the trafficking of teenagers between the ages of 13 and 16 years old to neighbouring countries.
The Anambra Police Command spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, during a press briefing, said that some of the victims were taken to Ghana by the suspect.
According to Ikenga, some of the victims who were trafficked to Ghana had been safely returned to Nigeria.
He also said that a search was ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.
Ikenga also mentioned that the suspect was apprehended following reports of increasing cases of missing teenagers in the state.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has directed all the personnel in the state to do everything possible towards tackling the growing trafficking trend.
He said, “The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation with the police. This will help in rescuing other victims and tracking down other gang members.”
