Peter Obi’s media aide, Valentine Obienyem, has debunked recent rumours surrounding the alleged arrest of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate and his wife by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Rumours circulated last weekend that Obi was apprehended at his residence in Anambra State.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Obienyem dismissed the reports as “entirely false and baseless.” He clarified that Obi was not even in the country at the time of the rumoured arrest.
“As of Saturday, Mr Obi was in Rwanda attending to important engagements,” Obienyem stated, adding that the former governor has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State, where he is actively involved in the party and national matters.
“There was no DSS operation at his residence, and no arrest was made,” Obienyem reiterated, calling on the public to disregard the misinformation.
He also urged Nigerians to remain cautious about false reports and assured that official communication regarding Obi’s activities would be made through proper channels.
“As the situation develops, Mr Obi continues to focus on his commitment to the nation while his team remains steadfast in providing accurate updates on his activities,” Obienyem concluded.
