The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Danladi Jatau, has appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to urgently renovate the assembly complex in Lafia.
During an inspection tour of the facility on Wednesday, Jatau highlighted the complex’s deteriorating condition, which has not seen a major renovation since 2012.
“Almost all offices are not conducive for Honourable members and staff as expected,” the Speaker remarked, pointing out that several key facilities, including air conditioners, are non-functional.
He stressed that a conducive working environment is essential for effectively executing legislative duties.
Jatau expressed concern that the assembly building’s poor state was hindering lawmakers’ and staff’s performance, adding, “We appeal to His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule, to come to our aid by renovating this House for effective legislative duties.”
Despite the current challenges, Jatau acknowledged Governor Sule’s efforts in prioritising the welfare of assembly members and staff.
He further assured the governor of the legislature’s continued support in his administration’s bid to deliver good governance to the people of Nasarawa State.
The appeal comes as Nigeria faces significant economic challenges, which have affected public services across the country.
