The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the upcoming Edo State election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has filed a N20 billion defamation lawsuit against Senator Adams Oshiomhole over remarks related to Ighodalo’s alleged involvement in the Planwell scheme.
Through his legal team, led by Ayo Asala (SAN), Ighodalo is demanding an immediate and public retraction of the defamatory comments, alongside a formal apology to be published on two national television networks and in three national newspapers.
The suit was filed after Oshiomhole made comments during an APC rally on September 14, 2024, which linked Ighodalo to the fraudulent pyramid scheme.
Ighodalo has described the allegations as baseless and malicious, accusing Oshiomhole of fabricating the claims to tarnish his reputation for political gain.
The PDP candidate emphasized that his public record as a legal practitioner and corporate leader is free from any connection to the alleged scheme.
In the letter dated September 16, 2024, Ighodalo’s counsel condemned Oshiomhole’s pattern of making false statements for political purposes, adding that such defamatory fabrications are a deliberate attempt to undermine Ighodalo’s standing ahead of the September 21 gubernatorial election.
The lawsuit seeks to hold Oshiomhole accountable for what Ighodalo describes as a deliberate and unfounded attack on his character, as the political atmosphere in Edo State continues to intensify ahead of the polls.
