Following the recent flooding that affected Maiduguri after the breakdown of the Alau Dam, the Internally Displaced Persons Camp set up by the Borno government is being infiltrated by non-victims.
The state governor, Babagana Zulum while launching the distribution of relief materials to those affected by the floods lamented the influx of non-victims into the IDP camps.
With the overflowing of the Alau Dam, over 2 million people were said to be affected with houses, farms and several properties worth millions destroyed.
The incident led to the setting up of IDP camps at Bakassi Camp along Damboa Road in Maiduguri by the state government.
However, during his visit, Zulum said, “We have observed that the influx of non-affected individuals into the camps has made the situation unsustainable.
“It is challenging to manage the camps efficiently under these conditions,” the governor said.
He also assured that the state would be conducting an assessment of areas affected to ensure that those who truly need assistance get it.
