One Jibrin Adamu has committed suicide in Jigawa State.
The 40-year-old deceased hanged himself at Jigawar Maroka village in Kiyawa Local Government Area of the state.
The incident was Jigawa State Police Spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu in a statement released on Friday in Dutse, the state capital.
According to DSP Shiisu, Adamu, who suffered from mental illness, committed the act on Thursday evening.
“On September 19, 2024, at about 1830hrs, a tragic incident was reported at the Command headquarters that one Jibrin Adamu, aged 40, of Jigawar Maroka village, Kiyawa LGA, committed suicide by hanging himself in a classroom at Miftahul Khairat Islamiyya And Primary School Gurdiba.
“Following receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Kiyawa and his team moved to the scene immediately.
“On arrival, the team discovered the lifeless body of the man dangling from the ceiling of a classroom in an Islamic school in the area,” he said.
The police image maker noted that the dead body was taken to the Dutse General Hospital, where he was certified dead by a medical doctor.
The remains, he added, have been released to his family for burial.
Preliminary investigation, he disclosed, showed that the deceased suffered occasional mental health issues that made him disappear for days before returning home.
“Prior to his death, he left home to fetch water close to the scene of the incident.”
The police Commissioner in the state, Ahmadu Abdullahi has directed that the case be investigated.
