The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a seven-man gang of armed robbers responsible for a N4 million heist involving a motorist delivering wrappers and lace materials.
The suspects, apprehended on September 8, 2024, along the Kano-Zaria road, had used stones to block the motorist’s path, forcing him to stop.
They then tied him up and stole the materials before fleeing in two vehicles—a Volkswagen Golf III and a Ford Focus—both of which were later recovered with the stolen items.
The police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the arrests in a statement, noting that the operation was carried out by officers attached to the Funtua Area Command, acting on intelligence.
“The stolen materials, 94 bundles of wrappers, and lace, alongside other goods, have been recovered,” the statement read.
Additionally, the police arrested three suspects in Dutsinma for illegal possession of a locally fabricated gun.
One of the suspects, Janaidu Yusuf, had posted a photo of himself with the weapon on social media, leading to his capture. Two other men linked to the illegal firearm were also arrested.
The investigation into both cases remains ongoing as the command continues its efforts to ensure public safety.
