The Police in Lagos have revealed the major route where kidnappers and other criminals in the state pass through to commit crimes.
Spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command SP Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed on Saturday while responding to a concern by a resident of the state.
The resident had drawn the attention of SP Hundeyin to the roadblock mounted by the police on the Lekki Epe expressway in the state.
He was worried that blocking the road would lead to accidents, given the heavy-duty vehicles that move on the road.
“Elemoro police station Area J is mounting a Road block on the Lekki Epe expressway in front of their station. This road attracts a lot of heavy-duty vehicles at high speed & stopping them suddenly will surely cause a major accident on this road, pls let’s prevent,” the resident wrote on X.
In response, the Lagos police spokesman said the command’s crime statistics indicated that the road was a major route for kidnappers.
According to him, the introduction of these checks has reduced crime in that area.
“Our crime statistics showed that that road was a major route for kidnappers, robbers, and carjackers. Introducing these checks has drastically reduced these ugly incidents. It is more telling that some vehicles encounter these checks, do a hasty U-turn, and zoom off,” he said.
He added that as a result of the roadblocks, two pistols, and other firearms were recovered in just one week.
“In one week alone, these two foreign-made pistols and other firearms were recovered in that axis. Please, do bear with us.”
