Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South in the National Assembly, has expressed concerns about the escalating hardship faced by Nigerians due to increasing fuel and food prices.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Ndume called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take swift action to alleviate the suffering, attributing the worsening situation to the influence of misguided advisers promoting harmful economic policies.
Ndume warned that certain individuals within the administration are undermining the President’s efforts by pushing for policies that have led to rising inflation and high exchange rates, further deteriorating the living conditions of Nigerians, particularly the poor.
“The sharp increase in the prices of fuel, food, and basic services is unbearable for many families,” Ndume stated.
The senator stressed that the economic strain is felt most acutely by those in northern Nigeria.
“People can barely afford to feed themselves. High fuel costs prevent farmers from transporting their produce, which further drives up food prices. The situation is becoming unbearable.
“Traveling from Abuja to Maiduguri has become a luxury few can afford, and the rising cost of living is driving people to despair,” he lamented.
In his appeal, Ndume urged President Tinubu to reconsider the current economic policies and take urgent steps to ease the burden on Nigerians.
“The patience of Nigerians is being tested. It’s crucial that the President acts before it’s too late, as the purchasing power of the people is too weak to withstand constant price hikes,” he added.
He concluded by encouraging the President to implement measures that would reduce the hardship and restore hope to the populace.
