God is Good Motors (GIGM) has confirmed a mass abduction of passengers traveling from its Utako terminal in Abuja to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday, October 11, 2024.
The company released a statement around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, following growing social media pressure from family members of the kidnapped individuals, criticizing GIGM’s initial silence.
In the statement, GIGM expressed deep concern and sympathy for the families affected by the incident.
According to the bus driver’s account, all passengers, except a nursing mother whose baby was crying incessantly, were kidnapped.
The driver and the woman were released by the kidnappers and reported the incident to the anti-kidnapping unit in Port Harcourt at around 11:30 p.m. on Friday.
“We write with deep concern and compassion to the families, loved ones of our guests, and the general public regarding the unfortunate kidnapping incident involving our bus en route from Utako to Port Harcourt on October 11,” the statement read.
GIGM assured that it is cooperating with law enforcement and remains dedicated to ensuring the safe return of every passenger.
The statement added that the bus driver is currently assisting police investigations to facilitate a swift resolution of the case.
This incident has caused considerable public outrage, especially among those whose loved ones were aboard the bus.
Social media platforms have been flooded with demands for swift action to rescue the abducted passengers.
