JUST IN: National grid restored after hours of collapse

The national power grid has been restored after nine hours of its collapse on Saturday, October 19.

According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, the power grid was restored after it experienced a temporary disturbance at about 8:15 am on Saturday.

TCN’s general manager for public affairs, Ndidi Miah said in a statement that engineers at its Jebba station carried out switchings successfully.

She said the TCN engineers did this by isolating the faulty current transformer.l and gradually reconfiguring the busbar arrangement at the station.

Mbah noted that the electricity supply was restored to the Jebba station and other parts of the grid.

She added that a report from the National Control Center (NCC) showed that the bus section of a current transformer exploded at 330kV Jebba Transmission Sub-station

Her words, ”As expected, the protection system was activated, and this promptly opened the busbars to curtail the explosion, thereby, preventing outbreak of fire and further damage to adjacent equipment.

”The action of the protection system led to a temporary disturbance on the grid,” Mbah added.
