Kano Governor Insists on LG Election Despite Court Judgment, Predicts Outcome

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has said the Local Government elections scheduled for October 26, 2024, will go on as planned.

This is despite a Federal High Court judgment nullifying the polls. The court’s decision cited the presence of card-carrying New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) members as executive officers of the election commission.

The governor is a member of the party.

However, at a rally held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium on Thursday, Yusuf presented flags to 44 NNPP chairmanship and councilorship candidates, using the opportunity to declare that the state will not allow anyone to disrupt the peace and that the election will proceed as planned.

“We have satisfied all the conditions laid down by the law and we have completed all necessary preparations for the conduct of the elections on Saturday, as such, the polls must take place as planned.

“We are aware of plans by enemies of the state to truncate this election, but by the grace of Allah, they will not succeed; the elections will be conducted peacefully and credibly,” Yusuf said.

Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf has predicted a landslide victory for NNPP in all 44 chairmanships and 484 councillor positions.

He cited the support which the party enjoys from the people in the state as the reason for the expected outcome.
