JUST IN: Nigerian Military receives counter-IED equipment from UK govt

The Nigerian Military has received advanced counter-Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs) from the government of the United Kingdom.

The donation made on Friday, October 25, was handed to the Operation Hadin Kai Theatre (OPHK) Command Joint Task Force in Maiduguri.

Made for stand-off detection of explosives and its components, the counter-IEDs were handed over to the Theatre Commander, Major General Waidi Shuaibu.

Making the presentation to the military, the representatives of the British Defence Staff West Africa were led by the UK Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Colonel Matt Lynch.

Lynch said the UK government is committed to the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.

He also said the counter-IEDs will complement the efforts of the Nigerian military against terrorists in the Northeast.

In his response, the 47 Engineer Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Abdulrazak Kazeem, said the donation of the equipment is important to the operations of the military in the region.

“The donation will not only help defeat IED devices but also support training that aligns with the Nigerian Army’s strategy.

“This equipment arrives at a crucial moment, allowing us to enhance our proactive approach in detecting and nneutralising threats in the field,” Kazeem said.
