JUST IN: Kano Government Shuts Down State for LG Election

The Kano State Government has declared an 18-hour movement restriction, effective from midnight to 6:00 PM on Saturday, ahead of the local government election.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the election scheduled for October 26 is poised to go ahead despite a court order against it.

The decision to restrict movements within the state was made after consulting with security agencies, according to Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye.

The movement restriction will affect individuals and vehicles across the state’s 44 local government areas and 484 electoral wards.

“We reaffirm our commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election,” Dantiye stated.

The statement by the commissioner added that the restrictions aim to maintain security, prevent disruptions, and promote a conducive atmosphere for a fair voting process.

Individuals involved in official election duties and those providing essential services are exempt from the restrictions.
