BREAKING: CAF Fines Libya, Awards Nigeria 3 Points Over Botched Match

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed Nigeria a 3-0 win and three points after Libya was deemed to have breached regulations in their AFCON 2025 qualifier.

The football body made the decision on Saturday.

The ruling signed by Ousmane Kane, the chairman of the Disciplinary Board read:

1) The Libya Football Federation is found to have breached Article 31 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

2) The match No. 87 Libya v. Nigeria of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2025 (scheduled to be played on 15 October in Benghazi) declared lost by forfeit by Libya (by a score of 3-0).

3) The Libya Football Federation is ordered to pay a fine of USD 50,000.

4) The fine is to be paid within 60 days of notification of the present decision.

5) All other and further motions or prayers for relief are dismissed.

With this decision, Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations have been boosted. With 10 points from four matches, the Super Eagles can secure their spot in Morocco with a win or draw against Benin Republic on November 14.

Nigeria now leads the group, four points ahead of the Benin Republic, while Libya is out of contention with just one point.
