Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, representing Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately.
The defection was announced on the House floor by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who read Gumi’s letter during Wednesday’s plenary session.
Gumi cited the lingering internal crisis within the PDP as the reason for his switch.
According to Gumi, the PDP’s internal issues have left his constituency without a functional party structure. “The PDP has two chairmen in my constituency, Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency. One was unconstitutionally removed, while the other decamped with me, hence the party lacks structure in my constituency, and this has made it difficult for me to provide good representation and prompt delivery of dividends of democracy to my constituents,” he stated.
