Shehu Sani, former senator for Kaduna Central, has dispelled concerns that President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bill, presented to the National Assembly, is biased against the Northern region.
In a statement, Sani reassured Northern leaders and citizens that the bill is “economically beneficial and fair to all parts” of Nigeria, urging them to “move beyond sentiments” and focus on its potential benefits.
Sani emphasised that the bill is a strategic effort to “harmonise and simplify tax administration,” aiming to combat corruption and improve tax enforcement.
He dismissed fears of regional discrimination, saying, “The Tax Reform Bill is not inimical to the North or any part of this country. People should keep aside sentiments and read the Bill carefully.”
Directly addressing Northern governors, Sani appealed for a reconsideration of their rejection of the bill, urging them to “take time to read it.”
He reassured that the reforms would not result in job losses or increased taxes but would secure national and state revenues. “No region will be shortchanged,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, Sani called for urgent attention from the National Assembly, underlining the bill’s importance in ensuring Nigeria’s economic future.
