The ongoing repair work on the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132 Kilo Volt (kV) transmission line has been stalled following an attack by vandals on the location.
Ndidi Mbah, the general manager for public affairs for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the vandals in a second attack disrupted operations on Towers 29 to 31, by stealing approximately one-third of the conductor on Thursday.
In a statement issued on Friday, Mbah said a team of TCN engineers led by the GM of the Port Harcourt region, Emmanuel Akpa, conducted an inspection on the affected site.
According to her, findings show that the vandals carried out their criminal activities on the site at night.
She said, “In order to prevent further theft while repairs are being made, local security has been engaged at Ula Ikata in Ahoada East Local Government Area to secure the site until repairs are completed. Additionally, the line will be energised from the Ahoada end as a preventive measure.”
Mbah also said that the TCN is working effortlessly to replace the stolen 250mm despite challenges presented by flooding and difficult terrain.
“The restringing of the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line is approximately 85 per cent completed,” she said.
She further called on the citizens to support the company’s effort to address the activities of the criminals in their areas.
In addition, she assured that TCN has intensified its effort to protect operational installations across the nation to prevent the adverse effect of criminals.
