The House of Representatives on Tuesday, November 26, passed a resolution urging President Bola Tinubu to remove Danladi Umar as the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) due to misconduct.
The move follows a similar resolution by the Senate, reinforcing the need for the President to act under constitutional provisions.
The resolution, moved by House Leader Julius Ihonvbere (APC, Edo), cited Umar’s recent public conduct, including an altercation with a security guard at Banex Plaza, which led to an invitation by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions.
Despite admitting to the incident, Umar refused to attend subsequent committee hearings, hindering investigations into his actions.
Ihonvbere stated that the Code of Conduct Tribunal is a key institution responsible for maintaining high standards of public morality and accountability.
However, he argued that Umar’s conduct falls short of the ethical standards required for such a position.
Citing the provisions of the Constitution and the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, the resolution seeks the President’s intervention to remove Umar, in line with the constitutional requirement that such actions be supported by a two-thirds majority of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
