The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a 32-year-old blogger, identified as Augustus, for cloning its official website and disseminating a fraudulent recruitment notice.
The suspect, a native of Akwa Ibom State, was arrested on Thursday at his residence on Akpan Eno Lane in Abak.
Augustus, a graduate of the University of Uyo and a content creator, allegedly cloned the DSS website to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians into believing that the agency was conducting a recruitment exercise.
“Augustus, a native of Abak Local Government Area, was tracked and arrested by our operatives at his residence. His actions were aimed at defrauding the public,” a DSS source revealed.
The agency quickly flagged the fake recruitment notice and issued a public warning against falling victim to such fraudulent activities.
Augustus is expected to be arraigned in court soon to face charges related to the cloning of the website and his alleged intent to defraud.
