Proxy war killing us as main opposition, PDP NWC warns

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned that proxy war is doing more harm than good to party as a major opposition.

A section of the NWC led by Timothy Osadolor also announced the need for Umar Damagum to continue as the national chairman of the PDP until December 2025.

However, this decision was rejected by some chieftains from the North Central region who strongly opined that the party’s national chairman should hail from the zone.

Addressing the crisis rocking the party, Osadolor said those who are not comfortable with the decision of the NWC for Damagum to remain as chairman are free to leave the party.

He alleged that the growing proxy war by privileged members of the party is costing the PDP.

He said, “it is distracting attention and misdirecting energies that could have been put to better use.

“Worrisome is the action of members of the party who, under the guise of being  ‘due process advocates,’ act on behalf of self-serving leaders lurking behind the scenes mischievously, causing misunderstanding in the party,” Osadolor noted.

Also warning that the war has never been in the interest of the PDP, Osadolor said it is ethically and morally wrong for members of the party to move around, creating confusion instead of exploring our internal mechanism for peace.
