Fmr Speaker Dogara Knocks Bala Mohammed, Reveals How Bauchi Gov Pleaded with Wike for Funds in 2018

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has accused Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of betraying his benefactor, former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The ex-speaker made the disclosure in a statement issued on Tuesday through his media aide, Turaki Hassan.

According to Dogara, Bala Mohammed had begged Wike for financial assistance in 2018 to fund his gubernatorial campaign, even kneeling before him in desperation.

The politician said it is improper for Mohammed to turn against Wike, labeling him a “transactional politician”.

It should be noted that there is an ongoing leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with Mohammed and Wike at odds over the party’s direction.

The party is yet to settle its dispute over the position of the National chairman and secretary who are allegedly occupied currently by Wike’s allies.

Mohammed had accused Wike of betraying the PDP by allegedly supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 presidential election, and called for his resignation as FCT Minister.

Meanwhile, Dogara revealed that Wike had provided financial assistance, including a private jet, to support Mohammed’s emergence as the PDP’s flag bearer in the 2019 governorship election.

“Wike bore all the costs, from providing a private jet to flying Chief Dan to Bauchi, to personally ensuring Mohammed’s emergence as PDP’s flag bearer,” Dogara revealed.

“It’s shocking that Bala Mohammed, who had no financial capacity for his campaign, now has the audacity to call Wike ‘transactional.’” he added.

The former Speaker described Mohammed’s actions as a “classic case of biting the hand that fed him” and accused him of being a “psychopath” and a “serial betrayer”. Dogara also pointed out that Mohammed had a history of switching parties, having moved from the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to the PDP while benefiting from a PDP-led administration.
