Ramadan: Look Out For New Moon, Sultan Directs Muslims

Muslims across the country have been urgerr to look out for the new moon today, (Wednesday), January 29.

The directive was handed to the Muslims by the Sultanate Council of Sokoto.

A statement issued by the council on Tuesday, January 28, urged the Muslims to look out for the new moon of Sha’aban 1446.

According to the council, this corresponds to the 29th day of Rajab 1446 AH in the Islamic calendar.

Signed by Sambo Janaidu, the Waziri of Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs,  the statement said any moon sighting should be reported to the nearest district or village head.

The village heads are now expected to forward the revived information to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III for official confirmation.

The council said, “May Allah (SWT) help us in the discharge of this religious duty. Amen.”
