“Some leaders are fueling the fire” – Acting chairman Damagum speaks on PDP crisis

The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Iliya Damagum, has accused unnamed party leaders of causing the crisis within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Speaking at the Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, January 29, Damagum expressed frustration over certain leaders bypassing his authority and directly engaging with NWC members, even in his presence.

He stated that the same leaders would not tolerate such interference if they were in his position.

Despite the tensions, Damagum sought to downplay the situation, describing it as part of the usual challenges in political organizations and assuring that the crisis would be resolved soon.

He also cautioned party leaders with personal ambitions to act responsibly, warning that their actions should not destabilize the PDP, which he described as their only viable political platform.

Damagum further assured the BoT that preparations for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in February were on track.

This reassurance followed concerns raised by BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, who reiterated the importance of holding the NEC meeting as scheduled.
