Tragedy As Anambra Taskforce Vehicle Rams Into Tipper, Kills 4 Persons

A vehicle belonging to the Anambra State Special Anti-Tout Squad on Saturday, January 31, rammed into a tipper heavily laden with sand.

The incident which occured along the Onitsha-Owerri Road axis of Oba, near New Road Junction in Idemili South Local Government Area led to the death of four people.

A Hummer Bus with UWN763XA as its registration number, another unregistered government-owned Hummer Bus and a Mercedes Benz tipper were involved in the accident.

The taskforce driver was said to have been heading to the junction for the daily stop-and-search routine when the incident happened.

It was gathered that about eight people were in the bus when the accident occurred.

An eyewitness said,  “The branded Toyota vehicle had about eight young men as the occupants and was speeding when it rammed into the tipper fully loaded with sand.

“The operatives were on their routine stop and search operations when they rammed into the tipper which was coming out from another junction of the road.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Margaret Onabe, said the accident was caused by route violation.

“Five male adults were involved in the crash. Four males lost their lives and one was injured.

“The rescue operation was carried out by Anambra State Anti-tout personnel. The crashed vehicles have been cleared from the road, allowing for a smooth flow of traffic,” Onabe said.
