JUST IN: Kidnapped ASP, 3 Others Rescued From Abductors In Edo

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Elisha Jeremiah who is attached to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja has been rescued from his abductors.

Jeremiah was kidnapped by some gunmen along the Okhuesan-Ewohimi Road in Edo while travelling to Anambra State on January 29, with some passengers.

The police ASP was rescued alongside Ayedele Ebenezer of Ogbidi Road, Uromi and Useni Inusa, who travelled in the same vehicle with him.

Confirming his rescue, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu on Tuesday, February 4, said operatives of Ubiaja Divisional Police Headquarters in a joint operation with other tactical teams, immediately went on the trail of the kidnappers.

Yamu noted that the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin ordered the deployment of the joint rescue team.

He said, “The team, acting on intelligence today (February 4) at about 1530hrs, mobilised to the bushes around Ugbebor, in partnership with local hunters and vigilance members. This effort paid off, as the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled, when they sensed that the operatives were closing in on them.”

Yamu also assured the command’s commitment and resolve to end crime in the state.
