The Concerned People’s Democratic League (CPDPL) has declared that Samuel Anyanwu remains the authentic national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing moves to replace him.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, CPDPL leader Daboikiabo Warmate accused certain party members of attempting to remove Anyanwu from office unlawfully.
The PDP is facing a fresh leadership crisis, with Anyanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye claiming the position of national secretary.
In December 2024, the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of Udeh-Okoye, stating that he should replace Anyanwu.
The ruling came after the party’s South-East zonal executive committee nominated Udeh-Okoye for the position following Anyanwu’s emergence as the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Imo State in 2023.
Despite this, Anyanwu has secured multiple court injunctions against his removal and has since appealed the ruling at the Supreme Court, filing for a stay of execution.
Warmate accused key party figures, including House of Representatives member Ikenga Ugochinyere, PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba, national legal adviser Kamaladin Ajibade, and Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman Adolphus Wabara, of fueling the crisis within the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC).
“We, therefore, urge all PDP faithful who are ignorantly supporting an illegality and disaster of Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as national secretary to stop forthwith and retract their steps,” Warmate said.
He stated that no individual or group could destabilize the PDP, insisting that Anyanwu remains the legitimate national secretary according to the party’s constitution.
