Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has described the purported four-member plenary presided over by impeached Speaker Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa as a “show of shame.”
Speaking with journalists at the Ikeja High Court on Friday, February 28, 2025, Meranda dismissed the session as a farce, citing the Assembly’s standing rules on quorum.
“I think, to me, that was just a show of shame. In our job, we have numbers that form a quorum. So, if you are sitting with three or four members, you’re only doing a tear job,” she said.
Regarding Obasa’s presence at the Assembly complex and reports of him breaking into her office, Meranda acknowledged that he remains a member of the House but condemned his alleged invasion.
“He has every right to come to the Assembly. But breaking into my office is really a very big one,” she stated.
Commenting on the ongoing legal battle, Meranda called for patience, stressing that the judicial process had just begun.
On the issue of her security detail, the Speaker confirmed that while some officers had been restored, her full security team, including DSS and anti-bomb personnel, had not yet been reinstated.
“This is actually just the beginning, and I think we should allow the legal team to do their job,” she added.
