
President Bola Tinubu on Monday mourned the passing of Professor Kharisu Chukkol, a former classmate of the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Professor Chukkol, also the father of Abdulkarim, the immediate past chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) died in Abuja on Sunday at the age of 79.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu described the late Chukkol as a renowned legal scholar and expert in criminal law.
Also describing the late Chukkol as a towering figure in Nigerian legal scholarship, Tinubu said his influence spans across various leadership traits showcased by notable Nigerians in places of authority.
“A native of Mayo Belwa in Adamawa State, Professor Chukkol dedicated his professional life to teaching and advancing law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
“He specialized in criminal law and held various positions at ABU, including Dean of the Faculty of Law and Director of the Institute of Administration,” Tinubu stated.
The president added, “I urge the family, students, and all touched by Professor Chukkol’s life to find solace in his remarkable achievements and the enduring impact of his work. May Allah grant him eternal peace.”
In addition, the ex-vice president expressed sorrow over the passing of Chukkol, his former classmate.
Atiku in a post on X wrote, “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un
“With total submission to the will of the Almighty Allah, I joined others at the funeral prayer of my classmate, Prof Kharisu Chukkol, at the National Mosque, Abuja. May his family be comforted,” Atiku said.
He also prayed that Allah will forgive his sins and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
