The leadership of the Labour Party on Thursday announced the approval for the extension of the registration and revalidation exercise by its National Working Committee ahead of the Anambra guber poll.
In a statement issued by Obiorah Ifoh, the party’s spokesperson, the deadline for the registration and revalidation process for the party has been extended to May 2025.
Ifoh also stated that the congresses across the wards, local government and states will now be held between June and July 2025.
Pledging LP’s commitment to a free, fair and credible primary election in Anambra, the party said Nigeria will get better only when an honest process of leadership recruitment is enthroned in Nigeria.
According to Ifoh, the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure while speaking at the NWC meeting in Abuja dismissed the allegation that the Labour Party is working with other parties against its members.
Abure noted that the party, since its inception has grown into one of the largest political parties in the history of Nigeria.
Abure said, “I want to reassure our members in Anambra State that as it is usual with our party, our primaries and congresses will be free, fair and credible.
“Because the rumours have been going round that the Labour Party is working for another party, I want to state it clearly that Labour Party is independent of any other political party.
“We can not have this beautiful party built with distinct ideology, distinct program, distinct philosophy and you will go and subsume it to the whims and caprices of another political party,” Abure noted.
