Members of the House of Representatives Northern caucus have described the proclamation of a State of Emergency by President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State as timely and apt.
The caucus leader, Ado Doguwa, in a statement issued on Thursday, March 20, said the decision taken by the president is in order and would help address the political crisis in Rivers.
Doguwa said it is important to note that it would be wrong for the legislature to sit back and allow miscreants, hoodlums, and politically motivated thugs to degenerate to the point of destroying national assets in the state.
He added that it is in view of the actions of the miscreants that the National Assembly – House of Representatives and the Senate – were compelled to take measures by supporting the president’s decision on the Rivers State matter.
He said, “What is happening today by way of destructions of critical infrastructure in the oil and gas sector is allegedly with the conspiracy of the suspended Governor of the state and some politically motivated players outside of Rivers state.
“In the circumstances therefore, I would like to on behalf of the northern regional Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives, state that we are in total support of the state of emergency declared by Mr. President in the discharge of his constitutional powers as clearly stated in section 305 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Doguwa noted.
