Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has dissociated himself from the position taken by South-South Governors opposing the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo clarified that he was neither consulted nor informed about the collective stance of the South-South Governors.
While acknowledging their right to take a position, he firmly stated that he does not share their opposition to the emergency declaration.
“Governor Monday Okpebholo acknowledges the right of other Governors in the South-South geopolitical zone to take a position.
“However, he dissociates himself from any statement that opposes the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.
The governor reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s actions in addressing the crisis, affirming confidence in the President’s understanding of the situation and commitment to restoring peace in Rivers State and the wider South-South region.
“Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, understands the issues at stake.
“Governor Okpebholo supports actions so far taken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that will bring lasting solutions and peace to Rivers State and the South-South geopolitical zone,” the statement concluded.
