The Rivers State Government has announced the suspension of all political office holders in the state.
Those appointed by the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara are particularly affected.
The suspended officials include the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff, commissioners, board chairpersons and members, and officials in agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals. Also affected are special advisers, special assistants, and senior special assistants.
According to the government, this decision follows the authority given to the Rivers State Administrator, Vice-Admiral Ibok Ibas (retd), by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The announcement was made in an official statement titled: ‘The Rivers State Government Announces the Suspension of Political Office Holders and Appointees in Rivers State’. It was signed by the Chief of Staff to the Administrator.
The statement reads: “This suspension takes effect from Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The affected officers are directed to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their respective MDAs.”
“Where there may be no permanent secretary, they are to hand over to the most senior director or head of administration.”
Vice-Admiral Ibas took office last week after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State. The emergency, announced during a national broadcast last Tuesday, led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The suspension is set to last for an initial period of six months.

They are confirming mazi nnamdi KANU’s word,in which they tagged heat speech,since the arrest of this man till now,Nigeria is going from managing condition to worse condition so far recorded, every thing is upside down now, from politics, economy,education, lack of positive judiciary efficiency & effectivness,social welfare hijacked to political gain, look at rivers state and see what is happening there now,frankly speaking this people need a saviour with a rod in his hand doing his work without mercy.
The politics in Rivers State is played with selfish interest, otherwise there wouldn’t have been need for sole administrator. Wike group are too selfish forgetting that in governance you consider the ruled first.Fubara and his group taught that they can thinker out how to salvage the ills as left by past governments in the state alone. You can’t come close to them because your Wike camp member. This is the issue with Rivers politics. How do you think the administrator will thrive under this environment? How will he choose people that will work with him? Is still those in governance will recommend who and who to be used.i implore the administrator to do his bid but I don’t see a solution to this impasse.
