Zamfara APC Breaks Silence on Bandit Leader Turji Obtaining Party Membership Card for 2027

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports claiming that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji obtained a party membership card ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party said the document circulating online is fake and was deliberately created to damage its reputation.
It described the card as a poorly produced forgery with incorrect state codes and unrealistic registration details that do not exist in the party’s database.
In a statement issued on Monday, the APC spokesperson in Zamfara, Yusuf Idris, said the party never registered Bello Turji as a member.
He explained that the party became aware of the alleged card after it began trending on social media with Turji’s name and photograph attached to it.
Idris said a careful review of the document showed clear signs of manipulation. According to him, the format of the card does not match the official APC membership template currently used in Zamfara State. He added that the serial numbers and ward details on the card were invalid and could not be traced to any registration centre.
The party accused unknown individuals of fabricating the card in order to mislead the public and create the impression that APC was shielding or associating with criminal elements.
Idris said such actions were carried out by “mischievous elements” who want to discredit the party at a time when it is strengthening its membership structure through electronic registration.
He stressed that the APC has no relationship with bandits or criminal groups operating in the state. He said the party remains committed to supporting security efforts aimed at restoring peace in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West affected by violence.
The spokesperson disclosed that the matter has been reported to security agencies for investigation. He said those responsible for producing and circulating the fake card would be identified and prosecuted in line with the law.
Idris also urged members of the public to ignore the document and verify information before sharing it online. He warned that spreading false reports could worsen insecurity and fuel unnecessary tension in the state.
He reaffirmed that APC’s registration process is strictly controlled and supervised by party officials. He noted that only verified members whose details are captured in the official system can be issued authentic membership cards.
