In a bid to reclaim control of the Labour Party, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, have summoned an emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in Abuja, and is expected to set the stage for a reorganization of the party’s leadership structure.
A notice jointly issued by Obi and Otti confirmed that the NEC session will be immediately followed by an interactive town hall meeting with key stakeholders and various party organs at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
According to the notice, which was signed by Ibrahim Umar, spokesperson for the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), the meeting will bring together stakeholders, including the 2023 vice presidential candidate, current and former senators, senatorial and House of Representatives candidates from the last general elections, as well as elected members.
Also expected at the meeting are all members of the Labour Party’s National Caretaker Committee (NTC), former governorship candidates who remain with the party, delegates from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) Political Commission, and members of the party’s former National Working Committee (NWC).
This development comes in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling last week, which effectively dissolved the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee.
