“Nigerians have endured, adapted, persevered” – Akpabio says as Senate resumes

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has acknowledged the fact that Nigerians have endured and persevered through the hardship that has rocked the nation and its economy.

Speaking at the resumption of the 2026 plenary, Akpabio said that during the legislative recess, Nigeria continued its steady march – through economic pressures, security challenges, social demands, and the quiet resilience of the people.

He said, “Nigerians have endured, adapted, and persevered. They have not been silent; they have spoken through enterprise and an abiding belief that tomorrow can be better than today.

“Above all, they continue to call for leadership that listens, reforms that work, and a future that rewards effort, integrity, and honest labour,” Akpabio noted.

While stating that the expectations of citizens have not diminished but increased with more urgency, the Senate President urged the lawmakers to stay alive to their responsibilities by ensuring the well-being of their constituents is paramount in all their dealings.

He also commended the military for its recent collaboration with the United States government and its pursuit to end insurgency across regions of the country.

According to Akpabio, such a partnership reinforces the country’s committment working with allies in confronting forces that threaten Nigeria’s peace and stability.

Further commiserating with families who have lost their loved ones to insecurity across the country, the Senate President affirmed that their grief is a reminder that security is not an abstract concept but about lives, homes, and futures that must be protected.

“As the political season gradually approaches, we call on all political parties and actors to be guided by conscience, civility, and patriotism. Nigeria’s unity and stability must never become casualties of ambition.

He also urged Nigerians to join in supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration which aims to make the country a better place for all.
