JUST IN: NNPP Loses Another Kano Lawmaker to APC

Another member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has left the party in Kano State.

Hon. Zubairu Hamza Masu, who represents Sumaila constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His resignation was made known on Monday during a House sitting. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ismail Falgore, read Masu’s letter aloud, confirming that the lawmaker’s defection becomes effective from May 12, 2025.

In the letter, Hon. Masu explained that his decision to quit the NNPP was because of internal divisions and legal battles within the party. He said, “factionalisation and litigations” have weakened the NNPP and made it difficult to function properly.

He pointed to leadership struggles in the party, both at the state and national levels. At the state level, he mentioned Dr. Suleiman Hashim Dungurawa and Senator Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa. At the national level, he said both Dr. Ahmed Ajuji and Dr. Agbo Major are claiming to be chairman. According to him, these conflicts have “suffocated the party.”

Hon. Masu pledged his full loyalty to the APC at all levels—ward, state, and national.

His defection is part of a rising wave of NNPP members leaving the party for the APC, including several federal lawmakers. Recently, NNPP national leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso condemned the trend, saying that defection from the platform that led one to power is the biggest political sin.
