JUST IN: Protest rocks Abuja as workers storm Finance Ministry

Civil servants in Abuja on Monday, May 20, stormed the Ministry of Finance over unpaid allowances.

Blocking the entrance to the ministry, the workers dressed in t-shirts were led by the Industrial Relations Officer of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority Branch,
Patrick Solomon.

Speaking to journalists, the workers under the aegis of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) also prevented vehicular movement in and out of the ministry.

They accused the government of ignoring their demands.

According to Solomon, the management has been insensitive to the plight and the needs of the union.

“We had certain challenges, and we have used all avenues to resolve the issues, but there were no listening ears. Our IGR in the office have been withheld for nothing less than 15 months.

“It has been very difficult to operate in the office, and that has been very difficult for us. Most importantly, allowances have not been paid. We have been on this issue with the minister for a very long time now, and it’s obvious he is not ready to listen to us,” he stated.
