Teen Arraigned in Ibadan for Alleged Housebreaking, Theft of Goods Worth Over ₦1 Million

An 18-year-old, Usman Adams, was on Thursday brought before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over allegations of housebreaking and theft involving property and cash worth more than ₦1 million.

Adams, whose address was not disclosed in court, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, housebreaking, and stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that the alleged offences were committed in the early hours of May 18 around 5:00 a.m. at the Agbokojo area of Ibadan.

According to Adegbenro, Adams and others who are still at large broke into a shop belonging to one Musibau Okanlawon and carted away valuables and cash totalling ₦1,086,000.

The items reportedly stolen include a television set, an electric fan, several bottles of perfume, a stabiliser, and ₦265,000 in cash.

The prosecutor said the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections 516, 413, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Presiding over the case, Magistrate Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair granted Adams bail in the sum of ₦200,000 with two sureties in like sum, both of whom must be deemed reliable by the court.

The case was adjourned until July 24 for further hearing.
