JUST IN: Troops kill 16 ISWAP members in Borno

Troops of the Nigerian military have killed some members of the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).

A post shared on the official page of the Nigerian Army on Thursday, said 16 ISWAP and Boko Haram members were neutralized by troops in Damboa, Borno State.

The Army wrote, “Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Neutralise 16 ISWAP/BokoHaram in Damboa, Borno State. Details later.”

Although the Army did not give details about the operation that led to the killing of the terrorists, a counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama said the criminals were killed in a failed attack.

According to Makama, troops of Operation Hadin Kai and its Air Component successfully repelled an attack by the terrorists.

He said the incident – a gun battle – occurred on Friday, at about 1 am when the terrorists targeted the Azir Bridge axis and the 25 Task Force Brigade location in Damboa.

He also stated that the gun battle between the troops and the terrorists lasted for about two hours.
